Blood Issue- Calgary Father Needs Help

the father asked me yesterday on the phone if any more of you could help him out with respect to his financial situation in defending against the wts to keep his daughter alive.

he is deeply greatful to all who have helped so far.. as you are aware the wts is trying to prevent his daughter from having life saving blood transfusions during her chemo therapy.

she has leukemia.. the father has won all court battles in all alberta courts.

I am so glad to see the posts of ones responding to the appeal for donations to help the father. I'm sure there are many more who have already done so too, but what a "witness" we will give to the WTS if "shunned Father" receives enough to not let these bullies push their weight around.

We're onto their scare tactics and I'm sure there are enough of us around who don't want to let the WTS have their way with this girl's life. She's nothing more to them than a feather in their cap if they succeed in their tactics of pushing this further so he can't afford to fight them.

And the results?....she likely loses her life and the WTS get another martyr to use to glorify themselves in their mags.

I know there is enough of us here that just can't let that happen!

Thanks for the reminder Hawkaw and it is so good to hear his relationship with his daughter is on the mend. That will be such an encouragement for him.

Hello All:

(sniff, sniff, cough, cough) Blasted bronchitis!!!! Well it sure looks like I missed a great "Apostofest". (although I have to admit, you guys had me wondering what kind of "gathering" this one was going to be with appointments of ones to be in charge of "indecent acts" and "panty removal"----whew!!!!---you guys had me a little worried for awhile)

Well I'm glad to see everyone survived OK and lived to tell about it. I've always thoroughly enjoyed the ones we've had before and by the sounds of it, this one was a huge success too. I remember how great it was at my first one to finally put a face to the posters so I understand how all you first timers feel today.

in the past i have sometimes felt like i have to be the 'bad guy', so to speak, because i need to lock or delete topics, deactivate people, try and stop fights and such like - basically, telling people off and not being 'nice'.. well, apart from the odd heated debate and harsh word (and disruptive 'visit') i have not really had a great deal to do for the past month or two and it has been very nice - a pleasure to serve.. so ... i thought i should say a 'thank you' instead of a "stop it!

Just jumpin' in here to say a big THANK YOU SIMON AND ANGHARAD.

This place has been a haven of comfort for me for the last year. My convictions about leaving the JWs became so much stronger once I started learning so much from the excellent posters here and I especially am so glad for the friends I've made here.

When my mom died a few months ago, I received so much more sincere comforting words and {{{hugs}}} from my friends here than I received from the JW "friends" I had in my whole lifetime as JW.

So thank you again for providing this place for us all.

dear fellow posters,.

ozziepost and his beautiful wife mrs ozzie are going through a very tough time right now, at the hands of the wts and its henchmen.

in the space of a few weeks, they have lost their children and other family members due to the unchristian attitudes and pharisaic dogmas, despite having tried to quietly fade away from the wts.

I am so sorry to hear this. This kind of treatment is just so heartbreaking. I can't believe we were all a part of this heartless and so un-Christ-like regime run by such dogmatic Pharisees. They have so much to answer for, but in the meantime I hope that your children will remember your fine examples of what real Christian love is and come to their senses.

You certainly do not deserve this cruel treatment. You have well earned the love and respect you have from all here and you both have been such a source of encouragement to me in your emails right from my first time posting on.

silentlambs is not disfellowshipped

i had an interesting day today.

early this afternoon i was sent an email by a sister who was chastising me for claiming to not be disfellowshipped.

she wrote she had just spoken to the oregon service desk and was assured that i was df on no uncertain terms.

I don't get it!!!

How can the man at the Oregon Service Desk tell the inquiring sister "that all information on the web site could not be trusted as it was from a DF person, namely me"..that is you Bill Bowen....and then tell you when you called, "there was a mistake since the call was from Oregon I thought you were a Bill Bowen in Oregon who is DF".

Something doesn't add up in his "explanation" to you....and it smells like lie to me.

So when you asked: "So I am not DF?” He said, “Right you are not DF.”

Therefore he realized you were not the DF'd Bill Bowen from Oregon but you are the Bill Bowen from silentlambs....but he already told the sister that Bill Bowen from silentlambs is DF'd. Hmmmmm..can you say Pinoccio?

happy witnesses?

i attended sunday meetings at least half a dozen times.

what i noticed is that the witnesses seem to be very happy people.

is that true or just a fassade?

if they are indeed happy, despite a total lack of intellectual stimulation during these meetings, then let them be witnesses! :)

While it may be true that they seem to be happy, most truly are not. They are required to be there despite whatever problem or pressure may be troubling them.

When I attended I remember, we were told :
- that we are "God's happy people" so we were made to feel we must live up to that name or else we would not be giving a good witness to the "world".

- that no matter how ill we felt with a headache, a cold or whatever, we should be at the meeting.(I remember asking an elder if it shouldn't it be announced that if you are sick with the flu or cold (something contagious), please stay home to not spread it around? His answer to me was: "If we say that, then everyone will use that as an excuse to miss meetings". (Really!! I'm not exaggerating one bit)

- that no matter how down or upset over problems we are, we should be at the meetings (I was also told that when one time I was so upset over a problem that I broke down crying when I went to pick up my friend to drive her to the meeting...she invited me in so we could talk instead of going to the meeting. Later when I explained to my JW brother why I missed the meeting, his response was typical..."you should have gone to the meeting anyway, that's where you belong".

But the most important reason to not just let them be, is that so many of them are not informed of the lies and coverups and errors in the JW teachings.

I was a typical JW who believed that we were the ONLY true religion, the only one God was directing with his holy spirit, the only one being blessed for worshipping Him the way He required. When I started to find out the real truth, I was devastated but I wouldn't trade knowing what I do now, for being back living a lie.

I feel like it is very important for anyone to be able to make an INFORMED choice about whether to be a JW or not....informed with the true facts. Then if one, after being informed, still chooses to stay or become a JW, then that's their freedom of choice. At least they will be doing so, knowing all the facts.

But as it is now, I can't conscientiously sit back and not somehow try to expose the wrongs and errors and coverups.

We used to give as an example for the reason we went from door to door preaching was: "if we saw our neighbour in danger in a burning building, we would certainly do all we could to warn them and help them get out of that danger. We feel this system of things is going to be destroyed and we want to warn people and help as many people possible to be saved into God's new system of things."

Well that same example applies to how many of us feel about the JWs still in the org....many of them being our own blood relatives.

Their stand on blood transfusion, for one thing, is taking lives of innocent children who can't decide for themselves as well as adults who have not been honestly informed of the truth about the scripture they wrongly use. They need to be warned of the false application so they can save themselves "from that burning building".

They are told that God's holy spirit directs the "faithful and discreet slave" to feed the flock with spiritual food from God. They need to be warned of the JW publications the WTS has printed, that have purposely misrepresented quotations from other books as though these support the JW belief.

There is alot more they need to be warned of, but I'm sure you can understand why we can't just "let them be witnesses". At least if they choose to be, let it be made from an informed choice.

Signing Off on "The NET THANG"

i would just like to thank everyone for the excellent posts that have appeared here on this site.

i esp would like to thank simon for making this possible.

i sincerely believe that the "net thang" will continue to play a role in helping jw who are sincerely searching for a confirmation that all their doubts and wondering over the years was not the result of them being spiritually weak.

I understand the need to spend more time in your chosen paths, as I too find I cannot spend as much time here as I once did. I must say though, I will truly miss your posts.

Reading your posts (yes...as you once admitted...sometimes jumbled or skipping words, as they can be ), I can almost hear you talkin' over this NET THANG and your insight and wit always bring a smile to my face. And your answers to my posts whether agreeing or laughing at them or perhaps giving me something to think about, encouraged me alot.

I am happy to hear you have been able to help so many to see the facts about the WTS and that is my fondest wish for those in my life too and anywhere else for that matter.

Please do drop in occasionally and say "Hi". I will miss you, but I wish you well.

Memorial policy. Is that true all over?

i was interested in the post earlier today, about how the 'emblems' were not passed to the disfellowshipped people at the memorial.. does anyone know if this is the policy now, or was it an isolated incident?.

my husband, a former elder, said he had never heard of that being done before.

but we've been gone for 4 years too.. marilyn (aka mulan).

This inconsistency in treatment of df'd persons totally destroys the "we are a unified organization...all congregations do and teach the same things" claim, doesn't it? In one place, df'd sit in the back row, in another they sit in the lobby, in another they sit anywhere..in some places they aren't passed the emblems while in others they are.

How can any JW supporter explain this? Isn't god's spirit directing things and how can he condone such disunity and still bless this org?

Those counted as partakers are those known as faithful, baptized servants of God. We do not invite disfellowshiped persons to attend. But if such a one is present, there is no reason to be disturbed if he is seated in a row with others and proceeds to partake of the emblems. Such a one is not counted, in any case, as a partaker.

How many remember this rule that df'd person were not invited? I certainly don't remember it ever being practiced. Df'd persons are most certainly invited to attend around here and 'expected' to attend too if they are wanting to be reinstated.

Again..the inconsistencies just scream out a lack of unity...totally opposite to what I used to feel so smug about. The unity in our beliefs worldwide was something I felt so sure was a sign of god's blessing and approval.

JW's can try to dismiss this as just a little thing...but this little thing, along with all the other little things, make a big mountain of wrongs that cannot be denied.

More on my Mom and the elders

mom and i have both talked to the elders at her kh, to tell them what the guy at patterson told us........that there is no problem with her living here, and that people should be visiting her.

mom misunderstood, and thought she was supposed to call all the elders.

i am sure the fellow meant to tell an elder, so he could tell the others.

Mulan, I have been following this horrible episode and I feel so terrible for what your mother is having to go through at the hands of so-called loving people. The callous and cold reaction of that elder and the gossipping busy-bodies is all too familiar for many of us.

Too often, this behaviour will be excused by that all-too-familiar phrase, "We are all imperfect humans so bad behaviour is bound to happen". But with all the frequent meetings and constant reminders the JWs have that should keep them on the right path, this kind of treatment is inexcusable.

While it is true that there are individuals in the congregations that do have a "real" heart and genuinely follow Jesus example of love, they, in all reality, are few and far between.

The sad fact is that even if your mother was in another environment, she would probably not be visited much anyway. I have observed this personally time and time again when older ones who have been "pillars of the congregation" are left to sit in there homes or nursing homes, day in and day out, with only an occasional visitor, if even one.

My mother is another example of someone who reached her 90's and spent her days pining away for someone to just even pop in to say "hello".

Yes I agree...yet even though the elders are required by the WTS to take the lead and set an example of visiting the elderly and infirm etc... bottom line?....they just don't do it!!! And what is done, is just token and temporary. Again I speak from experience.

And yet when my mother died just a few months ago, her service and loyalty to the org. was praised to the roof. I wanted to jump up and scream: "if you think so highly of her, why didn't you show your "love", why didn't you spend some time with her, why didn't you even just pop in for even 10 minutes and share a story or a laugh. That joy would have lasted her for days on end.

Part of the problem stems from the pressure for the "amount of time" one is expected to report for service. So to take out even a 1/2 hour from counting time, is begrudged. How much better would it be to not have to be so "time-conscious" so that the publishers could feel free to spend their time visiting the sick, the elderly, the widows, the down-hearted, like Jesus did, without having to worry about not getting in their precious "10 hours".

On top of that, your family is not even da'd or df'd Mulan. How can they justify their treatment of her because of your inactivity? Absolutely mind-boggling!!!!

Mulan, you mentioned in another thread that the one you called in Patterson said to keep him informed. Why not do just that and inform him of this latest unchrist-like retort from that elder to your mom. Perhaps some "elder cleanup" action from the "higher-ups" may come of this.

I wish you could tell your mom of the love pouring out to you and her from here.
